Dear Glasgow High School Seniors and Senior Parents!
We are hosting two workshops to help seniors and their families navigate the college application process, along with our Annual Title I Parent Meeting.
First, Senior students are invited to join us for a Common Application/Essay Workshop during school on Thursday, September 18th. We also will be hosting an evening session for parents that will cover the general college application process and timeline. The student workshop will be hosted by Sam Case of CollegePrep in Louisville, Ky. Sam is the Founding Consultant for CollegePrep, a private consulting practice that works with families around the world to develop competitive college applications.
Who should consider the student workshop: Seniors who are applying to a larger number of colleges that utilize the Common Application. This includes most colleges that are outside of Kentucky.
Who should not consider the student workshop: Seniors who are applying to a smaller number of colleges, typically 3-4. Those applying to our KY public universities, such as WKU, UK, UofL, EKU, may prefer to submit the college's own applications as these school-specific applications are streamlined and can make the application process more efficient.
RSVP is required for the student workshop by September 12th, as we need to have a final headcount for the workshop and be able to notify your student’s teacher. Please complete this registration form to reserve your spot.
What will happen in the student workshop: We will review/activate the Common Application and discuss the application process, including sharing insider tips on how to create the best Common Application. We’ll review what makes a compelling personal essay and share examples for you to refer to as you complete yours.
Second, we are offering a PARENT/GUARDIAN & STUDENT EVENING WORKSHOP on September 18th at 5:30PM to discuss the college application process and timeline. This session is open to any parent/guardian and senior who will be applying to 1 or more colleges. In this session, we will discuss tips for a successful application and current acceptance trends. We will cover the timeline and process for applying, ordering transcripts, requesting letters of recommendation, navigating decisions about standardized test scores (ACT, SAT), and completing financial aid/FAFSA and scholarship applications. Please click HERE to let us know if you are interested in attending this event. RSVP is not required to attend.
Thanks and we look forward to helping you along this journey!
