About South Green Elementary

School Information

Welcome to South Green Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year! I’m looking forward to seeing all our scholars as we enter another exciting school year!  SGE is a special, top-performing school in this area, but this doesn’t happen by accident.  Our loving and skilled faculty and staff are dedicated to ensuring that every student has a wonderful school experience and learns at a high level.  Approximately 495 students in Kindergarten through 5th grade attend South Green Elementary. We are blessed to have 72 fantastic faculty and staff members who love students and are dedicated to their learning and that each child has a good experience at school.

This year, our theme is “Shine Bright at SGE!” because our whole mission is centered around ensuring that our students reach their full potential and shine as individuals with unique talents, strengths, and interests.

At SGE we believe each child deserves a learning environment where they feel safe, loved, and supported, while also being held to high expectations. These expectations are not only for academics, but with behavior and being the best version of themselves they can be. Our faculty and staff are fully committed to supporting each student along the way and treating them as individuals with unique needs and strengths. Our main goals are for students to make progress each day, look forward to coming to school, develop social/emotional skills, and enjoy the learning experience. We see you as a partner in helping achieve these goals.

This year we will continue our Character Education system so that our Scotties not only learn academically, but develop positive character traits that will serve them well for life. These include traits like kindness, hard work, and perseverance. One thing we do each week is celebrate and recognize students for academic achievements and for demonstrating character traits for the week.

If you ever have any questions, concerns, or ideas - please feel free to email me at josh.turner@glasgow.kyschools.us or contact the school to set up a meeting.

Vision

To inspire children to achieve success

Mission

To grow and learn together

Philosopy of Education

We, the faculty, believe in taking the child where he is educationally, and instructing him in such a way so that he will develop to the best of his ability: socially, mentally, and physically.

We believe that self image affects learning, and will strive to develop a good self image and sense of responsibility in each child. This will help him to be a well-adjusted individual who can live a fulfilling life and find his place in society.

We believe in directing the child to specialized help when we recognize that his needs are beyond our capabilities in the regular classroom.

We believe in the democratic way of living, and as such, should be lived in the classroom and in all activities in school. We also believe that education should help one learn how to live successfully with other people by developing tolerance and freedom from prejudice.

We believe that we should be loyal, courteous, just and professional in all relationships with administrators, co-workers, parents and pupils regardless of race, creed, or social position.
